Upon exiting the trees into the open alpine a paradise for ski touring surrounds us as we stroll up the wide and gentle ridge with our objective the summit of the Sierra Nevada in sight. It is here that condors can be seen soaring overhead and the impressive peaks of the volcano Llaima come into frame to the South. The pitch increases gradually until it is necessary to don crampons or boot pack for a short distance during a non-technical ascent to the broad pinnacle.

Remarkable views of the Sierra Nevada’s East Glacier are contrasted by the dramatic drop towards Cañon del Blanco to the West and the lake of Conguillio National Park to the South.
