Volcanic Ascents
You’re more interested in mountaineering than skiing and we understand why! The volcanos of the Araucanía region and the beautiful panoramic views from their perspective summits are perfect for those in search of top-of-the-world experiences. At our doorstep is the well known Lonquimay Volcano last active in 1989 standing 9400ft above sea level in the heart of the Malalcahuello National Reserve and location of Corralco Ski Resort. To the North West sits the impressive but least visited Tolhuaca at 9206ft with its North glacier and vertical walls dropping away from the summit on three sides. To the South of town lay our personal favorite, the giant Sierra Nevada Stratovolcano rising only 8379ft above sea level but measuring 15mi across, with ancient forests, glaciers, lakes, waterfalls, and rivers it is a complete experience. A little bit farther South is the Llaima volcano which is both the tallest at 10630ft and the youngest with it last eruption having occurred in 2007. Whether you’re a hardened mountaineer or just starting out chasing summits you will always feel safe under the watchful eye of our experienced and professional guides.
